For Vincent Van Gogh, sunflowers were a symbol of life, light and purity. These flowers helped him during his darkest times when fighting depression. In fact, I recently read in a medical journal that “interactions with nature provide mental and physiological benefits that contribute to healing and therapy” (Kathleen L. Wolf, Ph.D).

For the majority of us, sunflowers are simply beautiful and make us smile. Mere images of them can bring sunshine and happiness to our surroundings everyday.
